Caitlin M. Wilmot focuses her practice on patent litigation, post-grant proceedings before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board, opinions, and counseling. Her experience covers a broad range of technologies, including chemical, pharmaceutical, electrical, and mechanical.
Prior to joining Rothwell Figg as an associate, Ms. Wilmot was a law clerk at the firm. During this time, she assisted with legal research, freedom to operate and due diligence opinions, IPRs before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board, and pro bono counseling. Additionally, Ms. Wilmot was a patent examiner at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office from May 2012 through August 2016. Her responsibilities included examining chemical patent applications related to batteries and fuel cells; performing comprehensive searches of foreign and domestic patent databases and online resources; applying the legal statutes of the USPTO to compile rejections and allowances for claimed inventions; and consulting regularly with both applicants and attorneys through phone or in-person interviews. Ms. Wilmot was a consultant for Booz Allen Hamilton from August 2010 through May 2012, and she worked as a chemical laboratory intern at Loudoun Water in the summers of 2008 and 2009.
Ms. Wilmot graduated with honors from The George Washington University Law School and received her B.S. in chemical engineering from University of Virginia.
